I'm migrating my site from GitHub pages to Azure. I'm using the term "my site" loosely because I don't really use it, but I keep having ideas that may help others, and maybe some talking points that I just need to get out of my head.

In moving away from GitHub pages, I'm moving away from using Jekyll and converting everything to basic HTML. The primary reason for this is I want to build something basic, and the key point is that I build it. The Jekyll theme I was using (https://beautifuljekyll.com/) is great, but it locks you into someone else's work that I only vaguely understand. Also, less is more in my opinion, so having full control over what I'm building allows me to keep everything simple and straight forward and I can understand it. Sure, it's not fancy, and maybe I don't do things perfectly, but that gives me the opportunity to learn.

The second reason from this move is that I want to get more exposure to Azure. I just passed the AZ-900 exam so I felt this was the next step to do just that. They even have a step by step guide on how to do it (here). Super straight forward, even if you've never dealt with Azure before you can probably handle it.

The third may actually be the most important: because I want to. Why shouldn't I? With mega corps controlling the majority of information along with being locked into a platform that bends to stakeholders, why not just make my own basic site? Does it need to have all the fancy doodads and whatchamacallits? No. Frankly, I doubt anyone will bother reading this anyway, so it's still comes down to what I want.
